Abstract

Since the first application of agricultural practices, humans have altered most of the world’s landscapes and adapted them for their own utilization (Lambin et al. in Glob Environ Change 11:261 269, 2001, Ann Rev Environ Res 28:205-241, 2003). Initially, the yield function of the landscape for food production was the major driver of this development.
